Belmont Courthouse - Belmont, Nevada

The desk of Judge Bill Beko

The Board of Trustees extends its deepest thanks to Vikki and Tom Beko, children of  the late Judge Bill Beko (he was also a former Nye County District Attorney), for donating the rolltop desk that sat in his office, first in the old Tonopah Courthouse and then his home, for many years.

The desk was disassembled and moved to Belmont, where it was placed inside the courthouse to be reassembled.  It will sit in the former office of Tasker Oddie, who served as Nye County District Attorney from 1901 to 1903, Nevada State Senator from 1905 to 1909, Governor of Nevada from 1911 to 1915, and a U.S. Senator representing Nevada from 1921 to 1933.

We like to think the photo of the sun shining on trustee Stretch Baker, who moved the pieces of the desk to the second floor of the courthouse, is Judge Beko showing his approval!

The desk in its new home

The desk that belonged to the late Nye County District Attorney and District Court Judge William P. Beko has been reassembled and is sitting in its new home in Tasker Oddie’s office.  A framed quote from the book Letters From the Nevada Frontier, in which Oddie shared what he saw when looking out his office window, will sit on top.  Once again, a big THANK YOU to Judge Beko’s children, Tom and Vikki, for the donation of this wonderful item.
